At Memoria, the ashes of your loved one are set visibly in a stone of resin – not hidden away in a small chamber. Below we explain step by step how it works, which choices you can make and what you can count on.

Step by step

How your jewellery is made

  1. Choose your jewellery

    Choose a ring, pendant, necklace, bracelet, earrings or charm, in solid gold or 925 sterling silver. You choose the ash colour and any personal touches online. Prefer to see it first? You are welcome in our stores.

  2. You receive the Ash Kit

    Within 3 to 5 working days you receive our Ash Kit at home, free of charge with every piece. It contains a small container, clear instructions and a prepaid return envelope with your name and order number.

  3. Send a teaspoon of ashes

    We only need about one teaspoon of ashes. Fill the container up to the line, seal the envelope and post it in any letterbox – in your own time. You can also bring the ashes to one of our stores.

    The ashes you send are used entirely for your jewellery and are not returned, so please always keep part of the ashes at home.

  4. We make your jewellery by hand

    On arrival, the ashes are registered under your order number and kept carefully and separately. In our workshop in Vlissingen our goldsmiths make your piece and set the ashes in the stone. You can follow the status on our order tracking page.

    8 – 10 weeks after receiving the ashes

  5. Delivered insured

    Your jewellery is sent to you insured and by registered post, in a Memoria gift box. A tangible memory, made especially for you.

Your choices

A piece as personal as your bond

Every piece is unique. The ashes give each stone its own subtle character.

  • Three ash colours

    The ashes are mixed into a stone in the colour of your choice. Anthracite is deep and calm, mother-of-pearl light with a soft sheen, copper brown warm and earthy.

  • Visible or invisible

    With visible processing, small flakes of ashes remain subtly visible in the stone. With invisible processing the stone looks even in colour, while the ashes are still part of it.

  • Glitter or gold leaf

    For a little extra light, you can add fine glitter(+ €10) or real gold leaf(+ €25) to the stone.

  • Birthstone or lab-grown diamond

    Many designs can be finished with a birthstone – for example the birth month of your loved one – or a sparkling lab-grown diamond.

  • Engraving

    A name, a date or a few words: with a personal engraving the piece carries your story.

Frequently asked questions

How much ash do you need?

Only a small amount of ash is needed for a Memoria piece, about one teaspoon. Simply fill the Ash Kit up to the line. We always advise keeping part of the ashes at home.

Will I get any remaining ashes back?

No. The ashes you send are used entirely to make your jewellery. Because we only need a little, we advise you to always keep part of the ashes at home before sending.

Is it safe to send ashes by post?

The Ash Kit is sent as a letterbox parcel in a prepaid envelope with your name and order number. In almost all cases it arrives without any problem. On arrival we register the ashes under your order number and keep them carefully and separately. Would you rather not send the ashes by post? You can also bring them to one of our stores.

Do I need to send the ashes straight away?

No, you decide when to send the ashes. Please take all the time you need. The making time of 8 to 10 weeks only starts once the ashes have arrived at our workshop.

How long does it take before my jewellery is ready?

After we receive the ashes, making your jewellery takes 8 to 10 weeks. Every piece is handmade in our workshop in Vlissingen. On the order tracking page you can see when the ashes have arrived.

Can I choose how visible the ashes are?

Yes. With visible processing, small flakes of ashes remain subtly visible in the stone. With invisible processing the stone looks evenly anthracite, mother-of-pearl or copper brown, while the ashes are still part of it.

Can I wear my jewellery every day?

Yes, Memoria jewellery is made to be worn every day. We do advise taking it off when showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping, and avoiding contact with perfume, creams and cleaning products.

Can I also use the ashes of my pet?

Certainly. The ashes of a dog, cat or other pet can be set in any of our pieces, in exactly the same careful way.

Can I have a completely unique design made?

We do not offer full custom design online, as a personal design deserves careful guidance. You are warmly welcome at our store in Vlissingen, where our workshop is located, to discuss your wishes in person with one of our goldsmiths.

What warranty do I get?

You receive a 1-year warranty on sterling silver and 2 years on 9, 14 and 18 carat gold. Should your jewellery arrive damaged, please let us know within 14 days at info@memoriajewelry.nl.
